Worship Leaders meet on a Thursday evening after school. Our mission is to spread our school values throughout our school community.
24.01.24
Our worship leaders have been working hard to decorate stones inspired by our school values and Bible verses. The children are looking forward to painting these and putting them around the school grounds so that we are always reminded of our values, wherever we are.
The worship leaders have discussed today's worship, led by Rev. Pauline, and have created some questions to ask their peers about the worship session.
Here is a sample:
- What do you think the key message of the story was today?
- When have you shown our value of love this week?
- Which part of the worship did you enjoy the most and why?
29.02.24
We enjoyed placing our decorated stones around the school grounds so that children would be reminded of our school values.
Our vegetable area has undergone a large transformation which has taken place in 2 stages. This is something that we will continue to develop throughout the year. A massive thank you to any children, parents, and governors who have helped to transform the area.

After Easter we will be entering a national design competition with Baxi engineers. There will be an entry for KS1 and another for KS2.
The KS1 project will centre round the design and construction of a dumper truck made from basic materials and an electric circuit operating a flashing light and the bucket mechanism.
KS2 will be making a lighthouse that has to withstand a 45 degree tilt with a shockproof base. Again constructed from basic materials with an electric circuit for the light.
Engineers will be working with children from each key stage.
We came up with some questions to ask a real life engineer:
We have looked at real life dumper trucks, what they are used for and how they are designed. We then created our own designs:
Currently, choir practice is on a Monday lunchtime for LKS2.
We are hoping to have lots of lovely events planned this year, such as singing for our local community.

This week we have been making sausage rolls and have practiced slicing, peeling, mixing, and rolling. We then had a look in the vegetable plot to see if we could find any of our ingredients growing.
Year 2 Cooking Club
This week, we learned about the importance of hygiene when preparing food. We then used our knowledge of healthy vegetables and we cut and prepared our own pizza. (Z)
We needed to be very careful when using the knives. We chose the toppings and carefully cut them into smaller pieces to fit on our pizza. I also learned how to grate cheesed using a grater. You needed to watch your fingers because the grater is sharp. (MH)
The pictures show how we had to prepare our pizza and what they looked like when they came out of the oven.
This week we made cheesy biscuits.
We needed to cut the butter into small pieces to be able to rub the flour and the butter together. When it was finished it looked like crumbs. (EW)
You had to be careful with the knife when cutting the butter because the butter was slippy. (MH)
The butter was soft, because the weather was warm and this made it hard to cut into small chunks. (DS)
I liked it because I got to mix the flour and the butter togehter, it went smooth when the egg was added.(AO)
The egg made the crumbs stick together it was like glue. (JG)
We then added grated cheese and mixed it again, after that we rolled out the dough and used a cutter to make the shape of the biscuit. (AI)
I enjoyed making the cheesy biscuits. I mixed eggs, butter, flour and cheese. Then rolled them out with a rolling pin. As well we used our hands to rub the mixture togehter and used cutters to make the shapes. The grown ups put them in the oven. After that we wrapped them in foil to take home. It is now time to EAT! (ZC)
This week we made sausage or vegetable rolls. We learned how to cut carrots into small pieces and mix into the sausage meat. We used quorn for the vegetable base and then added carrot, peas and onion. The mixture was sticky. (YM)
We then needed to roll out the puff pastry carefully, we needed flour to stop it sticking to our mats. (AP)
We then measured the sausage meat and carefully put in on the pastry and then rolled it round. We had to use egg to seal the pastry. I used a knife and equally cut the sausage rolls ready to go into the oven. (EW)
I learned that when we put carrot into the mixture and cook it the carrot will still be there. (JG)
This week in cooking club, we made chocolate cookies. We needed to cream the butter and sugar. To do this we used a wooden spoon and squashed up against the side of the bowl. After that we added the egg. We cracked the egg into a dish then we didn't get the egg shell. We then mixed this altoghether and sieved in the flour. We had to be careful that we mixed it well.
I then started to cut the chunks of chocolate into small peices. We used a knife. (AP) We had to be careful not to cut our fingers.
We then rolled out the dough to make a sausage shape and then cut the sausage into peice. I then patted them down on the tray ready for the oven it was fun. (EW)
Today we mixed the sugar and the butter together. The butter and sugar went soft. We sieved the flour into the bowl and mixed the butter, sugar and flour together. After that we rolled out the dough and used a shape cutter to make circles.
we then pricked the dough with a fork, this lets the steam come out and makes the biscuit crispy. The last thing we sprinkled sugar on top to make the biscuits sweeter.
Year 4 Cooking Club
Year 4 have been practicing their slicing, mixing, grating, spreading and chopping skills whilst making pizza. We have been identifying how to tell if a pizza is cooked or if it needs longer in the oven.
The pizza will be crispy around the edges. (J)
It will be golden brown and the cheese will have melted. (M)
It will have been in the over for 15 minutes. (A)
The peppers will have shrunk slightly because the juice will have been cooked. (J)
This week we have been continuing to practice our slicing, mixing and chopping whilst making couscous. Children looked at how to boil on a hob and practiced whisking the stock cubes into the water.
We had to use a measuring jug to measure the water and weighing scales to measure the couscous. (N)
We can tell when the couscous is ready because it goes light and fluffy (S).
This week, we have been making sausage rolls and practicing slicing, mixing, chopping, pealing, rolling and grating. We had to egg wash the top of the pastry to make sure that it sticks together and goes golden brown.
‘We have been making short bread.’
’We had to weight the ingredients using grams and mixing them together.’
’We had to press the dough into a ball and then roll it out flat.’
’We used a cookie cutter to cut the dough and then pricked it using a fork.’
This week, we have made tomato soup. Children have used their prior knowledge and skills to be able to chop, slice, mix, blend and boil.
Year 5 Cooking Club
This week, we have been making sausage rolls and practicing slicing, mixing, chopping, pealing, rolling and grating. We had to egg wash the top of the pastry to make sure that it sticks together and goes golden brown.
This week we have been making millionaires shortbread. We have practiced cutting, mixing and boiling and weighing.
"We knew that the caramel was ready because all of the ingredients had melted together and made a thick mixture."
"We had to pour the caramel onto the biscuit base and leave it to set over night."
This week we have read the book ‘ Tony Baroni loves Macaroni’ and used our peeling, chopping, slicing and mixing skills to make the recipe from the book.
Year 6 and Reception
Year 6 have been helping Reception to make sausage rolls. We had to grate, slice, chop, mix and weigh.
Reception - "We used the wooden spoon to mix the grated carrot into the raw sausage."
Year 6 - "We had to roll out the pastry and and grate the carrot. Reception helped to mix it chop the carrot before we could crack the egg."
Reception - "We used a brush to white wash the egg onto the pastry to stop it from burning and to help the pastry stick together."
This week we have been making cakes. We have looked at foods changing consistency and state, from a liquid to a solid. Children have independently practiced mixing, weighing, whisking, measuring and pouring.
Our ECO Team is led by Mrs A Parkinson. We meet once every half term with two or three representatives from each class in school which were voted for by their peers in September. The children in KS2 who were interested in joining wrote and shared a speech with their class to explain why they thought they would be the best candidate.
We had our last Green Flag Award Assessment in April 2017 and were very pleased to say that we passed. A group of children showed the Assessor around school and included all the areas which show that we are an ECO School.
We are due to be assessed again in May 2019 and are working on a variety of activities and projects to show what we can do as a school to make a difference to the world.
Why not have a look at the notice board in the hall or come along on a Tuesday lunchtime at 12.00noon to join the the Eco activities - everyone welcome.
Our latest Green Flag Award - Assessor's Comments 2017
'The Eco-Committee were delightful and showed me carefully round, ensuring I did not miss anything, especially the living wall.'
'I thought the skills the children had obtained from their work were of a high standard, and can only think this will have a greater impact on their future and wherever they go.'
'Well done to everyone and keep up the great work.'

With the help of World Vision, Chimwemwe's community is now self sustaining. As a school, we now support a young boy called Jusuf from Sierra Leone.
FairActive Certificate - Achieved 19th March 2019

We have worked hard to achieve this award.
As part of this we have tried to get everyone involved by holding Reading and Hot Chocolate afternoons as well as holding a Fairtrade Stall at our Christmas Trail afternoon. We have held an assembly about the 'Fairtrade banana' which was fun to perform.
Our next goal is to achieve the FairAchiever award.

We also held a Fairtrade Stall (Y6 children helped to run this stall) on 7th December 2018 at our Christmas Trail afternoon.
Parents and children enjoyed a drink and home-made mince pies during the afternoon.

The tree represents our school.
The Eco Code is written at the side.
The leaves are ideas of how to keep the code and protect our environment.
Each class were asked to come up with ideas of how to keep to the Eco Code in their everyday lives and we used these ideas for the leaves.
