Worship at St. Peters
Worship is a valued part of our daily school life – it is inclusive, invitational, and inspiring. Held at the end of each day, worship provides a meaningful opportunity for the whole school community to gather, reflect, and be still together. Our worship is bespoke and diverse, led by a range of people from across the school community including clergy, staff and pupils. Our Worship Council enjoy leading worship on a weekly basis. We also welcome visitors, such as representatives from the Salvation Army, who enrich our worship. We are a diverse school family and ensure that our daily worship sessions are inclusive to those of faith and no faith.
Our bespoke daily worship programme is planned by the Worship Lead. It is rooted in the teachings of Christ and is responsive to current events in the world. Worship offers opportunities for prayer, praise and reflection. Children and staff enjoy participating in worship and are able to apply the messages to their lives. We use our whole school ‘Big Frieze’ display in order to refer to the God’s Big Story within the worship.
The structure of daily worship is as follows:
- Monday – Whole School worship led by Ms Marland
- Tuesday – Prayer and Praise Worship or Worship led by a class
- Wednesday – Worldwide Worship (focusing on current events and how we can use our faith to make the world a better place)
- Thursday – Worship led by Rev. Fleur or Pauline
- Friday – Celebration Worship (Parents/carers are invited to participate in Friday’s worship if their child is receiving a certificate)
The Worship Council meets on a half termly basis with Miss Lister and plans and delivers a half termly whole school worship. The Worship Council is also responsible for speaking to staff and children about the learning from the worship as well as improvements regarding worship sessions. The pupils enjoy their role. Our Worship Council have also written and delivered worship based upon our school prayer.
Prayer Spaces Day 2025
In October, we held our first Prayer Spaces days. Prayer Spaces is an interactive, spiritual experience which exists to encourage people of all ages to inspire communication with God through creative, hands-on prayer activities. As a Church of England school, we teach children to value moments when we can be quiet, reflect and pray. Our Prayer Spaces Project has been planned to highlight this. The children enjoyed fun, interactive, thought provoking and challenging activities, with time to stop, be quiet, reflect and pray. This year, all of our stations were linked to the theme of gratitude. Some of the activities included gratitude jars, lego prayers and making crosses out of pipe cleaners.
The Worship Council
The Worship Council have been busy preparing their first whole school worship. They acted out the parable of The Good Samaritan and led the singing and prayers. It was a very thoughtful worship with lots to take away.
We held our first Easter Garden competition today. We had over 100 entries which made it very difficult for Rev Fleur to choose winners. The children have worked incredibly hard on these and loved coming to see all of them in the hall.
We have been learning about our school values and thinking about how we can show these value in school and at home.
We have been learning about the Bible story ‘The wise and the foolish man.’ We learnt that that Jesus is the rock of our life and we should live our life according to him.
We learnt about the parable of the Good Samaritan. We then thought about how we can be a Good Samaritan and decorated a heart.
In worship we have been reading the bible story ‘The Prodigal Son.’ We discussed how the youngest son was greedy at first but then he showed forgiveness.
We looked at a 5 finger prayer and had a go at writing our own.
