World Book Day 2025

To kick start World Book Day, we had a teacher swap and Mr Barr came to read us a story called ‘Horrid Henry Robs the Bank.’
We then watched a live ‘Footy and Booky World Book Day Event.’ This was a quiz that featured two rounds of questions (one football-themed, one reading-themed) pitched by our footballing heroes and authors.

To celebrate World Book Day we also came dressed up as a character from a book.

This week, we welcomed Pam Daunton, author of The Dove Stone.

She discussed her journey on publishing a book.

We spoke about the importance of knowing the characters and bring in them to life. We also spoke about how important speech is to portray the characters.

We focused on the setting of the book and what we can see and hear. We spoke about what the setting would be made from and what would be happening.

We also swapped classes and each teacher took time to read to a different class in school as well as learning new words and creating definitions cards. It was each child's task to take a new word home they had learnt that day.

Following on from the author visit, we created our own setting maps ad opening lines. We discussed what might be on our map as well as using synonyms to create place names. Have a look at our work and activities from the day.
