Year 2 Cooking Club
This week, we learned about the importance of hygiene when preparing food. We then used our knowledge of healthy vegetables and we cut and prepared our own pizza. (Z)
We needed to be very careful when using the knives. We chose the toppings and carefully cut them into smaller pieces to fit on our pizza. I also learned how to grate cheesed using a grater. You needed to watch your fingers because the grater is sharp. (MH)
The pictures show how we had to prepare our pizza and what they looked like when they came out of the oven.
This week we made cheesy biscuits.
We needed to cut the butter into small pieces to be able to rub the flour and the butter together. When it was finished it looked like crumbs. (EW)
You had to be careful with the knife when cutting the butter because the butter was slippy. (MH)
The butter was soft, because the weather was warm and this made it hard to cut into small chunks. (DS)
I liked it because I got to mix the flour and the butter togehter, it went smooth when the egg was added.(AO)
The egg made the crumbs stick together it was like glue. (JG)
We then added grated cheese and mixed it again, after that we rolled out the dough and used a cutter to make the shape of the biscuit. (AI)
I enjoyed making the cheedy biscuits. I mixed eggs, butter, flour and cheese. Then rolled them out with a rolling pin. As well we used our hands to rub the mixture togehter and used cutters to make the shapes. The grown ups put them in the oven. After that we wrapped them in foil to take home. It is now time to EAT! (ZC)
We made cheesy biscuits.
This week we made sausage or vegetable rolls. We learned how to cut carrots into small pieces and mix into the sausage meat. We used quorn for the vegetable base and then added carrot, peas and onion. The mixture was sticky. (YM)
We then needed to roll out the puff pastry carefully, we needed flour to stop it sticking to our mats. (AP)
We then measured the sausage meat and carefully put in on the pastry and then rolled it round. We had to use egg to seal the pastry. I used a knife and equally cut the sausage rolls ready to go into the oven. (EW)
I learned that when we put carrot into the mixture and cook it the carrot will still be there. (JG)
Sausage and vegetable rolls
This week in cooking club, we made chocolate cookies. We needed to cream the butter and sugar. To do this we used a wooden spoon and squashed up against the side of the bowl. After that we added the egg. We cracked the egg into a dish then we didn't get the egg shell. We then mixed this altoghether and sieved in the flour. We had to be careful that we mixed it well.
I then started to cut the chunks of chocolate into small peices. We used a knife. (AP) We had to be careful not to cut our fingers.
We then rolled out the dough to make a sausage shape and then cut the sausage into peice. I then patted them down on the tray ready for the oven it was fun. (EW)
Our chocolate cookies
Today we mixed the sugar and the butter together. The butter and sugar went soft. We sieved the flour into the bowl and mixed the butter, sugar and flour together. After that we rolled out the dough and used a shape cutter to make circles.
we then pricked the dough with a fork, this lets the steam come out and makes the biscuit crispy. The last thing we sprinkled sugar on top to make the biscuits sweeter.
Shortbread biscuits
Year 4 Cooking Club
Year 4 have been practicing their slicing, mixing, grating, spreading and chopping skills whilst making pizza. We have been identifying how to tell if a pizza is cooked or if it needs longer in the oven.
The pizza will be crispy around the edges. (J)
It will be golden brown and the cheese will have melted. (M)
It will have been in the over for 15 minutes. (A)
The peppers will have shrunk slightly because the juice will have been cooked. (J)
This week we have been continuing to practice our slicing, mixing and chopping whilst making couscous. Children looked at how to boil on a hob and practiced whisking the stock cubes into the water. =
We had to use a measuring jug to measure the water and weighing scales to measure the couscous. (N)
We can tell when the couscous is ready because it goes light and fluffy (S).
This week, we have been making sausage rolls and practicing slicing, mixing, chopping, pealing, rolling and grating. We had to egg wash the top of the pastry to make sure that it sticks together and goes golden brown.
‘We have been making short bread.’
’We had to weight the ingredients using grams and mixing them together.’
’We had to press the dough into a ball and then roll it out flat.’
